Feast of Love Trailer!
The trailer for Feast of Love, shot here in Portland, and discussed in many previous posts here, just went live on the AOL site.
It’s got some great shots of the bridges and N. Portland and the Fresh Pot (Jitters in the movie) on N. Mississippi.
Check it out when you get a chance. Though I couldn’t get it to play in Firefox, so IE may be your best bet. Looks pretty cheesy, but I’ll have to go see it for the Portland sights. And Robert Benton has had a somewhat hit-and-miss career, but Nobody’s Fool and Kramer Vs. Kramer are classics, so you never know, it could be good.
My girlfriend and I watched part of the filming of this movie near our house just down the street from Western Seminary on SE 55th Ave. In between takes, a lot of the cast and crew poured out onto the streets to get fresh air and mix it up with people from the neighborhood.
Morgan Freeman and Greg Kinnear were very cordial and friendly, very happy that the neighborhood was so welcoming to this project.
Along with lots of our neighbors, my girlfriend was standing there with our dog when she overheard Selma Blair say to Morgan Freeman, “If that dog comes near me, kick it!”
Appalled by her attitude, my girlfriend said right back to her, “nobody kicks my dog!”
Ms. Blair stammered an apology saying she was ‘just kidding,’ and lots of the crew came over to lavish attention on our dog, trying to make up for the starlet’s very curious, misplaced dog attitude.
I’m not sure how funny it is to joke about kicking dogs, but this was a very distasteful encounter with Hollywood on one of our normally quiet neighborhood street, especially considering Ms. Blair has such a public pro-pet attitude.
Having read The Feast of Love I can tell you that Ms. Blair’s character is someone with a severe dog phobia. This is just a guess, but perhaps that’s part of the joke?
Furthermore, in reference to an older post, the coffee shop is called Jitters because that’s what Charles Baxter names it in his award-winning novel. It’s not “a name only Hollywood could come up with for a neighborhood coffee place.”
Amy– thanks for the info. guess Selma’s more of a Method actress than maybe she’s been given credit for, though seeing as she always seems sort of bored onscreen, that catches me by surprise.
As for Jitters, i stand corrected. it’s a name only hollywood and an award-winning author (who’s maybe never stepped into a real coffee shop — i don’t know, i haven’t read the award-winning novel) could come up with. no offense intended, i just sort of think it’s a silly name, but again, that’s just me.
