Fast Company says we’re a fast city!
I got my weekly newsletter from the Mayor’s office and saw that it linked to an article from Fast Company magazine, the mag that used to breathlessly report the latest dotcoms to rise and fall. I don’t see much from them anymore that is very relevant, but this did catch my eye: 2007 Fast Cities. Why? We’re on the list! Under Green Leaders (along with Chicago, Stockholm, and Vancouver BC). This is interesting for a couple of reasons: One is that after all that “Creative Class” nonsense that we’ve been listening to for all this time, we weren’t on the “Creative Class Mecca” list (which is Shanghai, New York, San Francisco, and Buenos Aires). Another interesting thing is that Boise makes it on the list of “High Tech Hot Spots”. And a bonus third interesting thing: Seattle is NOWHERE on this list. I was interested because it always seems like if we’re on a list like this then Seattle is on it too for other reasons. I guess they should be happy they weren’t on the Slow Cities list or the Too Fast Cities list either.
Anyway, we’re apparently a “Green Leader” so yay us! I think we’d be better in the Urban Innovators list but I’ll take what I can get. You can read the intro to the article online and also go rate some cities too.
