So Good Summer Night

It was a good night people, a very good night indeed. Normally my family and I are kind of home bodies, especially during the week, but since we had errands to run and we were out and about anyway we decided on a mini night out on the town.

But where to go? Mr. wanted fish. My little K wanted calamari and grilled cheese, we wanted a place she could behave and still be happy. I wanted a martini.

We went down to the Riverfront (significantly un crowded yet still full of tents from the weekend’s festivities). I guess we were at Riverplace technically, and there, floating down on the water was the former Newport Bay. We had dined there countless times before but eventually we grew a little tired of the surly (yet competent) wait staff and decided to go elsewhere. Well it wasn’t the old Newport Bay anymore. It was Marina Fish House, though it still looked suspiciously like a dressed up Newport Bay (but maybe that’s just because it is one, but with much nicer staff).

We sat down with big menus for the grownups and a magna doodle for K and let me just say we all got what we wanted.

Was it up scale restaurant of the year? No, but it was a nice place to sit as a family and enjoy a corner of our beautiful city complete with Dragon Boats, flocks of birds and guys in a dingy.

Not to mention what I estimate to be the 6th best martini I have ever had in a restaurant. I don’t know if it was a fluke or if there was a great bar tender working though since I only had one before we drifted on for the evening.

And what’s a perfect end to our perfect summer evening? Umpqua ice cream at Little River Caf√©.

I’m just glad we managed to squeeze in this little trip before our temperatures go through the roof tomorrow.
