Sand in the City 2007!
It’s that time of year again when teams of hardworking builders whip up some magic and create sandy sculptures in Pioneer Courthouse Square for the annual Sand in the City event.
There were tons of people down there last year, and if you go on Friday, you’ll get to see the new creations as they’re thrown together, though they’ll be there all weekend. And it’s for a good cause — all the proceeds go to the Kids on the Block charity, and according to their webpage, the donations from this one event last year equaled a third of their annual operating budget.
Personally, I hate the feel of sand between my fingers (or toes, for that matter — what’s got two thumbs and hates the beach? this guy) but I appreciate the dedication and craft that comes with turning tons of sand into sculpture. I’d also like to know what happens to the sand when they’re done…
