Watch out for bikes - Seriously!
9000+ of them will be converging on Portland this weekend for the annual Seattle to Portland bike ride. This wonderful event is one of the summer’s great bike rides. I had a friend do it about 10 years ago and remember hearing the wonderful stories of bystanders along the route cheering the riders on and giving them food and drink. A majority of the riders will make it a two day trip, camping around Centralia/Chehalis this evening and making it to Portland on Sunday. Some will make it to Portland this evening, so watch out for them.
The route they take will bring them across the Lewis and Clark Bridge in Rainier out off Hwy 30 and then down Hwy 30 into Portland. If venturing out that way tonight or all of tomorrow, be extra careful with that car of yours. Also, give them a wave and encouragement. By that time, they may need it.
The event culminates in a party at Holiday Park by Lloyd Center. More than likely, it will be crammed with all the bikes, all the people (probably a bit ripe after the long ride) and food and drink. Way to go riders!
