A Fun Time at Oaks Park

chipper.jpgSo my wife and I ventured over to Oaks Park for the first time since we moved here just a little over two years ago. I’ve driven by the park a few times passing through Sellwood and seen pictures of it here and there, but hever actually spent time there till last night.

We were drawn there by the fact it was two-for-one Tuesday. We ended up putting out $14 for two deluxe ride bracelets and another $6 for a hot dog, three corn dogs, a soda and a bottle of water. Total date cost: $20. Nice! What was even more surprising was that the dogs actually tasted really good…I was expecting typical carnival fare, which on a good day gives me heartburn.

The rides at the park were…interesting. We particularly enjoyed the Big Pink Slide and Herschell-Spillman Carrousel. Oaks added a new ride this year apparently - the Disk’O - but I’m not a big fan of rides which spin you in circles. Still, I’ll probably do that ride and ones similar like it next time we go back. And yes, we liked it enough to go back again. It was a blast to enjoy a part of Portland’s amusement park past.

And, for the record, I beat my wife at air hockey! Woo-hoo! And I also found playing first person shooters on my Xbox 360 helps with the shooting gallery…

Hey, that’s awesome! I’ve always wondered if Oaks Park would be fun for adults. The only time I ever went there was once last winter on a Sunday evening for their roller rink. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it! They had a real organ, and an organist was playing the music to skate to, which was so much better than typical cheesy roller skating music. I highly recommend it! Just make sure you go when they’re doing organ music, because oddly enough, it’s a real treat.
