Etsy Art & Craft Summer Sale

PDXEtsy is holding an alternative craft fair sponsored by the PSU Women’s Department and the Walk of Heroines next Saturday August 11th from 8:00am – 4:00pm at the Park Blocks at PSU next to the Farmers Market. If you aren’t familiar with Etsy they are “an online marketplace devoted exclusively to handmade goods.” They started a year ago as a place for artists and craftspeople to sell their work without having to deal with galleries and other traditional venues. Having dealers in galleries take a huge chunk of your sale sucks so it’s great they banded together and figured out how to make sure all the money goes back to the artists.

PDXEtsy is a group of Portland artists who are part of the 25,000 artists selling their wares on http://www.etsy.com/. This is a unique opportunity to see their work in person and also get a chance to meet the artists. You can go to their website http://pdxetsy.com/ to take a look at the vendors. You’ll have to click around because some of their links don’t work. I was able to pull up Laughing Oyster Babies and they have a gorgeous Kuan sake cup online that I hope will be at the sale.

So next Saturday go pick up a some coffee at Spunky Monkey Coffee Roasters (I don’t know how their coffee is but I like the name) at the Farmers Market and head over to the sale to support your local indie artists.
