Tour de Fat this weekend

This weekend brings the second annual Tour De Fat down at waterfront park. This is a Fat Tire sponsored event to celebrate bikes and bike culture. There will be a bike parade on Saturday from 11-12am and then festivities down by the Hawthorne bridge until 6pm. When I say festivities, I mean FUN! I was unable to attend last year and won’t be able to attend this year, but after last year, I read the re-cap on bikeportland and wished I had gone. Portland is a bike town and there is serious bike culture here. We have the bike messengers, the work commuters, the competitive racers, the mt. bikers, the tall bikes and clowns on bike contraptions. I would say we have most if not all the facets of biking culture one could want. And they will all be at the Tour de fat this weekend. My favorite from last year’s pictures was the bmx bike with tires and wheels from a dragster. So cool.

There will probably be beer since the event is sponsored by Fat Tire brewing. Also, performances by March Fourth Marching Band, Yard Dog Road Show, and best of all, the Sprockettes, a dance troupe on small bikes.

Head on down to Waterfront park on your bike or unicycle or tall bike and enjoy everything Portland’s bike culture has to offer. And have a brew for me.

Ya, this is a cool event and I’d be there but I am going to Seattle. I hope the rest of you head down there and check it out, you’ll have a blast.
