Getting away doesn't mean you have to go far-far-away! You can do it close to home to. You could stay in the pearl, use their facilities, walk around and see all the freaky people! Or, if the city's not your thing, check out some of the surrounding areas. Find a cute little B&B in Camas or Sandy or ??? You can meet some cool people, and often get lot's of nice quiet time (which sounds like what you're looking for). Heck, you can stay at any number of McMenamins (maybe even a different one every day), where you can drink and talk, drink and read, or just drink! The idea is to get away from your routine life, not neccessarily your location! Have fun!!!

I'm a fan of Otter Rock/Crest - so close to the Devil's Punchbowl which is the coolest scenic part of the Oregon coast - and then there's an awesome bar just up 101 in Depoe Bay called the Sea Hag. We were there on our 2nd anniversary a few years ago - and met a couple who were celebrating their 40th or something - and go there every year. An old blind guy plays songs on the piano and there's a fireplace table in the middle of the room, it's very cool.

Driving can be risky on
holiday weekends. Drunk drivers abound. I usually stay hone and walk to whatever I'm doing with a close eye on whose driving around my place in the sun.

How about a gorgeous drive down to Mt. Shasta City? I was just there for the first time last weekend and fell in love. It's a 6+ hour drive, but the vibe is mellow and the mountain is awesome. I loved it so much I'm making dieselboi take me back this weekend. Seriously. Email me if you want more info!!

Manzanita is a great place to go and you're close to Cannon Beach if you want to be touristy and do some shopping. There are a few places you can stay that hopefully won't break your bank. It's such a pretty place and the beach is easy to get to.
