ouch, them’s fightin’ words! i would call all fives dominoes for people who would rather be playing yahtzee. :)

if you wanna battle the jamaicans and puerto ricans for that million dollar world championship of dominoes prize you’re gonna have to drop the gringo style and learn the straight game…

I am not opposed to that style…although, I would call that Dominoes for people who forgot their backgammon board.

this sounds awesome, though do you ever branch off from the fives game? my friends from mexico call that the gringo style, they play a simple defensive game (i think it’s called draw) where you only score what’s left in your opponents hands when you go out, or lay down a block, preventing anyone from moving.

Well, this is a club to educate people who want to learn to play and to have fun. At some point, when there are enough people who feel comfortable and ready–we can go can have an annual tournament–I’m thinking next summer.

On a personal note…I agree and if there are any Domino Bobby Fischers out there in the PDX, bring your A-game b/c I will :)

Another Southern gentleman then…agreed, there is not a link to specific times/dates. I’ve been getting ready for this tournament for over a year now, and finally felt ready–so I put this up.

It is just a general announcement to:

1) produce or gauge interest
2) to show the venues that the time is coming
3) to put myself in check, so that I will start taking all the necessary steps to making it nice.
4) to round up prizes for the club.

As far as time and date, I am expecting the first Wednesday of Oct at Jace Gace b/c Tanya from B-side will be out of town until mid-October.

Sweet! It’s been a long time since I’ve played dominoes. I too learned how to play from my grandfather in Mississippi.

I might have to check this out, whenever I get around to figuring out which link will provide more details on date/time.

–well, if that were true, I don’t think I’d have to teach nearly everyone I know or have met at Aalto Lounge, Jace Gace, etc with a high hipster ratio.

I learned from my dad and gramps in Mississippi–definitely not hipsters and not Cuban.

Then, I later learned speed and betting dominoes at an 85% minority, 99% free-lunch aka poverty level high school in Oklahoma City….no hipsters there for sure or Cubans, but everyone could play.
