The Beavers to be named…the Beavers
It looks like the Portland Beavers won’t be changing its name anytime soon. Word has come down from management the fan base of the Beavos produced a majority of votes to hold on to the current name and thus it shall stay.
I personally think some kind of name change might have helped but certainly do see the rationale of keeping the name as is. This is especially in light of the alternatives being presented to the public to vote on. The Wet Sox? Come on!
Here’s what owner Merritt Paulson had to say:
“We were not going to change the name just for the sake of change. It’s clear that there are strong feelings about the Beavers’ name, and that’s a great thing. However, we still need to explore changes we can make to enhance the team’s identity.”
The team is going to look into more cosmetic changes such as a new logo and “on-field identity system.” You know what might really help though guys? Win more games! A 58-86 season doesn’t exactly make people want to come out of the woodwork to attend. That being said, at least we have some form of professional baseball to enjoy in this town on a hot summer’s night.

Boo! Hiss!
Bring on the Portland Wet Sox!
Thank god. I was beginning to think that the new owner was brain dead. There was never any reason to consider a name change. History people. Our little Portland Beavers are the last remaining, original team from the Pacific Coast League. That alone should have been enough to prevent the owner from wanting to change the name.
Oh my god, who just said Portland Wet Sox? GAK!!!!!
