New Potter beard gets us all gossip-like
Part of the charm of Portland is that sometimes it feels like a big city and sometimes a small town. Today it seems to be leaning towards the small town feeling – the chatter among some Portlanders this morning is the “new look” Mayor Tom Potter is sporting: a well groomed beard. KGW reports he grew the beard on vacation and that many people like it. It has apparently been the talk of local radio stations this morning as well.
OregonLive also has an article, blog post and poll on this important civic issue :) (they also have a better close up photo). So, what say you all – should the beard stay or go? I think it stays – in fact, it inspired me to start a little hair growth as well.

I wonder if he’s trying to emulate a recent very popular former mayor?
I say it stays.
He should get a dish dash and complete the Islamic makeover. Then he really will deserve the moniker, “Taliban Tommy Potter”
I thought that when men sported beards it meant that they were trying to hide something? Psych 101 or something like that?
Are any of you MetBloggers practicing psychiatrists?
No matter what his appearnce he still a horrible mayor. When can we get him out of office and get someone real in?
This reminds me of the Kids in the Heall sketch ‘The Beard’. Looks like its been yanked from youtube, but a transcript is here: http://www.kithfan.org/work/transcripts/five/beard.html
Can you define what makes Potter a horrible mayor? I think he is just taking time to adapt to the office. We’ll see him bloom anytime now.
Yeah, all you naysayers… anytime now our glorious mayor bloom into what will be known as America’s Best Mayor Ever. Only then will you see what a masterful planner he really is.
I also really like his tie. For that matter I appreciate most of his wardrobe choices on nearly all occasions.
I think the beard fits him just lovely. Very attractive, really dignifies his persona, which is saying a lot considering he truly embodies class and sophistication.
Our Mayor is a quality leader and anybody that thinks otherwise is wrong… wrong, wrong, wrong.
“taking time to adapt to his office?”
He should have adapted long before now. He’s an ineffectual buffoon who makes Bud Clark look competent by comparison.
Smash Hits, you’re right! Only a few days after your comment, and Potter has done the best thing ever! Woo hoo!
