For the love of beer

Brewtank

On my way in this morning, I came upon the new brewtanks being installed at Widmer’s newest building down off Interstate under the Fremont bridge. I jumped off the train in order to capture this cool feat of beerness. I am not a fan of Widmer’s beer, but I am a fan of brewing and seeing the size of that tank made my beer senses tingle.

It looked like they may have already installed one tank and this was the second with a third sitting on a truck nearby. The guys doing the work were fast and efficient. Hey, time is beer…err I mean money. Good luck Widmer with the new tanks. May they be part of some great future brew. Video coming soon for the true brew fanatics.

    Nice work on the photo.
There’s video of the first tank going in here:

I’m partial to a cold Drop Top now and again myself.

Fantastic customer relations department over there at Widmer; I’m not a fan of their bottled stuff, either, but their tap rotation/availability is pretty choice, IMO.

    agreed,

Not very great beer, but that is cool!

Widmer makes amazing beer and their seasonal/festival selections are routinely better than anything else on offer. Just another case of hipsters trying to hate anything that becomes too popular.

    DAAAAAAVE,
Why disliking a specific beer make me a hipster (read in a negative sense)?

I don’t like McDonald’s either, but that is because the food is just plain bad.

I prefer my beers to be more hoppy and Widmer just doesn’t get there. Give me a TG IPA any day.

Widmer’s Broken Halo comes out at around 45 ibu, well within normal range for IPAs. Anything over 60 is really a double IPA (TG is at 65 IIRC) and criticising Widmer for not having basically the only style of beer you seem to drink among their line is pretty myopic, especially considering most of the Northwest-brewed Doubles (or Imperials as they like to be called now) are extremely one dimensional and frankly boring to drink. Hurrah, it’s bitter! Now what?

I’ll chalk up the comparison of Widmer to McDonalds to poor analogy skills.

P.S. And is hipster ever used in a positive sense?

P.P.S. The McMenamins on Broadway has a Timbers Army inspired beer at a senseless 107 ibu. Thread on it here http://www.soccercityusa.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1177723449/0

Touche on the Widmer/McDonalds comparison. I was just waking up.

Yet, I am still going to defend myself here. I haven’t said Widmer is BAD or Widmer SUCKS or anything like that. All I said was that I am not a fan. I have drank their beer now for 20 odd years and am simply tired of it. After awhile it all starts to taste the same. So I venture elsewhere. This past summer I was on the search for the perfect pilsner, but alas, with fall coming, I’m searching for Octoberfest and the winter brews.

Oh, and regarding that 107 ibu beer. I had a beer in Seattle named Afterburner. So hoppy that I was tasting the hops later in the evening. Yes, a beer can become too hoppy even for me.

yeah, I just am not that fond of Widmer beers. I like what they’ve done, and boy would I like to pop the top on the tank in that photo, but their beers just don’t appeal to me. And I’m pretty much not a hipster. On the other hand, I’m stoked to see local beers doing well, so go Widmer.

    Daaaaave,
We never did hook up for the beer prior to a Timbers game – mainly because I never attended a game. My bad.

I just read that Widmer is releasing the Hop Harvest today. Do I hear MEETUP? I’d be willing to meet @ the Brewhouse down off N. Russel for a taste and some good beer discussion.

    Game?
