The VC Will Get a New Home

As we all sadly learned at the beginning of the year, the Virgina Cafe is to be destroyed as part of some new office space downtown.

Today we hear that they have found a new place – just four blocks away – to relocate. And the best part…

“the goal is to close the current location at 5 p.m. Feb. 28 and open the new location a few minutes later, as soon as customers carry their barstools the four blocks between the two sites.”

I hope the OLCC will let ’em carry their drinks too.

Ooh, smoke free… so, will they have a kid play area? Kid menu? High chairs?

    (ducking)

What’s with everyone always thinking you need to have smoking and drinking together? I’m so sick of that BS; I’m a perfectly good alcoholic and hate the smoke. 2008’s initiative to ban smoking in bars and restaurants can’t get here soon enough.

I have always thought they should put all smoking areas on top of buildings. That way everyone can still smoke (like a chimney) and the rest of us can be happy.

Just as some wish there were more smoke-free bars (and said wish will soon come to fruition), I wish there were more dog-free parks. So I hope we ban dogs soon. I also wish there were more dairy-free restaurants. So I hope we ban butter soon. I wish there were more car-free streets. So I hope we ban Toyotas soon. I wish there were more kayak-friendly sloughs on the coast. So I hope we ban fishing trawlers soon. Man, the list goes on and on. Too bad we banned what I like first.

Oddly, the new location was announced awhile ago. So I’m not sure why The Oregonian thought this was newsworthy.

Sign me up for the dog-free parks.

Yeah, but B!X – the Merc didn’t tell us they were going to make the patrons carry all the barstools down the street – that just made me laugh!

    Did someone say dog-free parks?

    Where do I go?

    “…dog-free parks?

    “Where do I go?”

Outside of Portland. Thank you, Jim Francesconi.

    SWEET!!!!

They’re moving, not closing… and what a great location! And smoke free too! Talk about great news! Then again, the smoking ban is coming soon anyway.

It may be old news, but it’s new to me.

I hope the owners don’t forget to transfer “the dank” to the new location.

Yeah, that’s a lame Simpsons reference.
