Costume Contest Time!
To the chagrin of some of our readers (and maybe an author or two as well) we talked a lot about Halloween in these here parts last year - in fact I counted more than 20 posts related somehow to the most spooktacular event of the year…but the first post was way back on October 5th - and here it is the 10th already and not yet a word.
That must be remedied.
So it is Halloween time and Portland is getting ready! We were out and about over the weekend getting props and parts for our costumes as well as some new pumpkin carving tools and a few other fun decorative items and it seemed half the city was doing the same thing.
We needed some costume accessories - not full costumes - I don’t believe in buying costumes. You can buy pieces and out things together - but walking into a store and picking up the ready made package, or going to a rental company and picking out an outfit - to me that just isn’t nearly as fun. And no one should be allowed to win a costume contest with a rented or store bought costume. It’s like entering a store bought cake in a bake-off. Coming up with an idea then heading out to Valu Village, Goodwill, Lippman’s (I ADORE Lippman’s!), craft stores, fabric stores and the secret treasure of fabulous costume parts… Gen-X clothing. Or going to those stores without an idea - wandering around touching fabric, looking at accessories, letting your mind wander until suddenly - THAT’S IT!
We have AWESOME costumes planned… and maybe I’ll tell you what they are if you tell me what you’re doing…
Halloween is only three weeks away - and less then that if your festivities are occurring the weekend before - so get out there, be creative, have fun and I’ll see you in costume out on the streets of Portland!
