Portland seeks honorable people to heap praise on
Got a buddy you know who gives money to every homeless person he sees or who runs in every marathon our city seems to have for various causes? Maybe he’s involved in local politics as a volunteer or someone who nags City Hall to get stuff down around town. However you spin it Portland is looking for men and women to award its 2007 Spirit of Portland Awards.
The Spirit of Portland Awards, of which nominations need to be in by Friday, Oct 26, are “given annually to individuals, neighborhoods, businesses, and volunteers are one way the City recognizes the importance of community involvement in shaping the livibility of Portland.” Categories include “Humanitarian Effort; Independent Spirit; Community Harmony; Large & Small Businesses; Crime Prevention; Best Non-Profit; Neighborhood; Partnership; Employee volunteer; or Youth volunteer.”
Now I know some of you cynics probably think this is a waste of time but it seems like a real way to honor those unsung people who in their ways make Portland a better place. So, if you know anyone you think worthy, get in an application for them by the deadline.
