Cough Cough!

Is your office hacking and coughing? Sniffling and sneezing? Half of your co-workers home and the other half should be? Yeah – mine too.

Please people – if you’re sick – stay home – I don’t want your germs!

And if your kids are sick – maybe you should stay home then too – or disinfect yourself throughly before you come in – ’cause they’re even worse carriers.

And if these guys are in your office or your grocery store – take advantage!

And if your kid(s) are sick. Please keep them home so they don’t infect all the other kids.

But that’s not always an option for everyone. For example: I work for a company that basically punishes people for calling in sick. Oh, sure, we get “flex days” but if we use them, without scheduling them weeks in advance, this effects our attendance record which directly influences what shifts we’ll be working in the future. Thus, everyone shows up and coughs all over one another every November – March.

Also: working parents can’t stay home with sick kids. Worse yet: the average cold/flu with coughing last over a week. A girl who sits next to me has been hacking for nearly a month. How many local companies allow their workers to call out for a week because of a standard case of the sniffles?

I agree with ER… I work for a non-profit (who shall remain unnamed) that requires a doctor’s note to stay home from sick and penalizes employees who do. I’ve got the virus that’s going around but don’t have any flex-time to use. Yeah, it’s time for a new job, but, for the moment, if everyone at the office gets sick because of me, there’s not much in the policy that allows me to avoid that.
