Come to the Cabaret!
Well if you’ve seen posters, ads or other such things that tell you that at this point you missed seeing Portland Center Stage’s performance of Cabaret – they’ve extended the date and you’ve now got until November 11th to check out the show.
I love Cabaret - I’ve seen the movie version and the stage production with two different professional casts – and it’s always amazing. The theme song was one of my friend’s favorite karaoke songs when we’d go out – and she did a pretty good job – but hearing Storm Large belt out those numbers – WOW. I wasn’t familiar with Wade McCollum – although he seems to be a legend around town – and shows why with this role.
Ticket prices are a little steep – they’re as much or more than touring Broadway productions at Keller – but at least your supporting a local company that does pretty consistently good work. And the fact that the run was extended proves that Portlanders are willing to pay for quality theater. This also gives you a chance to check out PCS’ sweet new digs if you haven’t yet.
What good is sitting alone in your room?
Come hear the music play.
Life is a Cabaret, old chum,
Come to the Cabaret.

This headline is misleading ;)
If you want tickets you need to do it now-ish. I sell tickets there and this 2nd extension is mostly full. It was announced a while ago, by the way.
At this point your best bet is the last Sunday matinĂ©e (the 11th at 2pm) or the final Friday or Saturday night. Yes, because they’re the most expensive. The Thursday and Saturday matinĂ©es are gone, as are most of the weeknights. You might get lucky on a weeknight if you don’t mind sitting farther back and off to a side.
Since this’ll sound suspicious coming from someone that works there please do stop by the box office and have them show you the ticketing seating charts. All red.
Be sure to mention if you’re a student (with ID) as there’s a pretty hefty discount, although you can’t use it for the Friday/Saturday evening shows.
She’s right, you know. I thought this was one of the better performances I’ve seen in a Portland theater. I almost didn’t go because I’m a sucker for the movie and I thought anything else would pale in comparison. But this holds its own. My favorite number was Two Ladies.
haven’t seen yet but i have my tickets for the season at PCS. I’ve heard several raves about caberet so I’m looking forward to it.
btw, subscriptions help your local theater company the most since it allows them to better gauge their budget for the year. Spur of the moment buyers are nice but it’s hard to plan a season around them. So support your local theater, buy a subscription.
Chris is right. PCS is kinda in the red, trying to pay the move to the Armory … so be kind.
I hear most of the theaters and art areas in town all operate in the red. Eeep!
Bravo! I saw it Friday night. It was fantastic. Wade never ceases to amaze me.
