Get Twisted

I ate breakfast this morning at Tin Shed and so I just had to hit up Imp next door. I love that store. So twee. In my dream life, I wake up in an Anthropologie catalog and Imp is like Anthro but local. I spotted a luscious cashmere sweater and checked the tag. What startled me was the price ($168) but what really caused me to pause was the little warning tag from the manufacturer requesting shoppers remove jewelry before trying on the sweater. The sweater is a little like going through airport security, but I was so in lust with it, I really thought, screw the price, I must have something so fragile I can’t wear earrings around it. And then I remembered that wearing clothing is not an extreme sport. And that I am a clumsy woman. I trip and fall weekly. This week I’m limping because I fell down a single stair. I cannot buy that sweater.

But I was undaunted. I needed a cashmere fix so I headed to Broadway and to Twisted. Twisted is my most favorite yarn shop. They specialize in locally spun and dyed yarn. Every single skein in the joint is quality. The owners are young and friendly and they seem to have the same pleasant sort of surprise that I have when I’m in there. I feel like we’re all thinking, wow! How cool is this place?! And they are so nice about my standing there for twenty minutes with a hank of baby Alpaca on my neck and a sad look on my face because I’m on yarn smackdown right now.

I didn’t buy anything, but it felt good to admire things without needing to be wanded and having the liquids removed from my bag.

ooo baby alpaca yarn. it’s almost to lovely to knit - I always want to just carry it about in my pocket so I can take it out now and then and give it a little pat.
