Where should I have dinner tonight?

No, I’m not shamelessly begging to have dinner at your house, with your family. I’ll be making a Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow afternoon with a friend (turkey’s in the refrigerator, all the fixin’s have been procured), and don’t much want to horn in on someone else’s family celebration today. And I’m not bemoaning my ‘alone’ state - I am currently reveling in the peace and quiet at home, and have a nice mix of plans for the rest of the holiday weekend.

But the kids left just a few minute ago to spend the weekend with their father - and suddenly, the thought of having a quiet home-cooked dinner here doesn’t sound as appealing as it once did.

Sure, I could find a Denny’s or Village Inn - but I want something one giant step up from that.

Soooo….where should I go for a nice glass of wine and pleasant meal (turkey not necessary) later today?

My wife and I are going to McCormick and Schmick’s. Also the Portland City Grill is open. They have no reservations available, but are accepting walk ins. Good luck!

The Ambassador up off NE Sandy is always open. Have some yummy Chinese and sing a song on the karaoke!

One of the reasons I like the Doug Fir is that you can do the low-key dining thing. Their mac n cheese rocks, or you can order a full entree. You can sit at the bar with a nice meal and a glass of wine and people watch.

McAngrypants - in the same way you so loooooooove the Rheinlander, I loooooooove the Ambassador. A family tradition. Also, I worked at the Rheinlander and sang my but off through college….and I’m German. That my friend isn’t what it is cracked up to be.

BTW, since you made me remember a wonderful memory, come to the next meetup on Dec. 6 and I will buy you a beer!

Rheinlander it was! I had some apple cider and molasses-glazed duck, along with red cabbage and spaetzle (?) - and it was very nice, thanks.
