Things to do When it Snows in Portland
1. stay home from work (or “work from home”)
2. have a snow ball fight
3. ice skate in your driveway or down your street (only works if it rains after it snows, then refreezes — only happened once in my nearly 20 years here, but it was a blast)
4. grab a cardboard box and go sledding at the biggest hill you can find
5. practice driving in a big empty parking lot somewhere
What else?
Drink all the local beer you stockpiled for just such an occasion.
Cross Country Ski to the market????
take the dog(s) out for a walk…throw snowballs for the dog to catch/fetch ;}
watch the movies/TV shows you recorded & meant to watch later–“when i get the time”…
go for a middle-of-the-night walk as the snow falls–down the middle of the street…
stay up late, sleep til the afternoon…
DO NO HOMEWORK!! (very important!)
Find a quiet place to enjoy the wonder of the falling snow. Take your camera and and go for a peaceful walk, shooting some photos along the way.
D’oh! I forgot the most important one… build a snowman!
I love it when it all thaws, and you see snowmen in the rain amongst the green grass.
Another one I forgot (should be at the top of the list): Don’t panic! Having grown up on the prairie and dealt with many a blizzard, it’s pretty amusing to see all the kookiness that comes with a little winter weather around here. Does an inch of snow really shut this town down? Yep!
Play board games (Life, Monopoly)
Move the furniture, turn up the stereo and DANCE
Invite the neighbors over for a snow-day pot-luck
Make Snow Angels
Bake Bread and Drink Hot Chocolate
Read one of the “classics”
Take care of one of those “Honey Do” List items from chores around the house (i.e., clean/organize a closet)
Invite the neighbors over for Pictionary
Cup of hot chocolate, a blankey, and a book.
Traci don’t forget to add some peppermint schnapps to the hot chocolate mmmmm goooood stuff.
