Plan B

I’m very blessed living in inner SE Portland. My options for grabbing a pint are many. If I want to sit down and have a pint over some curry for lunch, I’ll head to the Lucky Lab. If I want a place to watch “Monday Night Football” over a pint of Milk Stout (if you haven’t tried it yet – you must), I’ll head over to Roots Brewing. If I want some old time rock n’ roll, I’ll make the jaunt over to Duff’s Garage. If its some late night eats and a cheap beer, then I’ll head to Maiden in the Mist. But my all-purpose neighborhood bar is Plan B.

Plan B used to be ACME. The ownership has changed, and there have been some modifications made to the interior. Gone are the hipster pretensions and clientèle of ACME, and in it’s place is a fantastic neighborhood punk rock bar. It’s the kind of place where you’ll hear Dead Kennedys and GBH in regular rotation while an 80s slasher flick plays on the large screen TV. It’s the kind of place where you can throw down a buck and get a pint of Miller High Life, or plunk down a couple more bucks and get a Total Domination IPA. Plan B also sells cider, well drinks, and Sparks (a personal favorite). If that sounds like a good time, you’re gonna love this place. If it doesn’t, you still might love it. It’s a punk bar, but punks are some of the nicest people you could ever meet. Plan B has taken some knocks over on the Barfly Magazine website for it’s alleged slow service, but that problem has been ironed out. In recent visits, I’ve encountered nothing but fast, friendly service.

As far as neighborhood bars go, Plan B is up there with the best.

Plan B is located at 1305 SE 8th.
