Feeling blue, Iris?

timeline7.jpgThe New York Times reports on Pantone’s announcement of 2008’s color of the year. In case you were wondering, it’s Blue Iris.

“Blue Iris brings together the dependable aspects of blue, underscored by a strong, soul-searching purple cast. Emotionally, it is anchoring and meditative with a touch of magic.” Personally, I think it will look boss as the background to my MySpace page.

I make my living doing design and I always find Pantone’s color pronouncements sort of annoying. I did have a boss once who scolded me for not knowing that year’s color, so maybe I am a little bitter about it (turns out is was Blue Turquoise that year). As the guy says, “I respect Pantone a lot, but I see them as a technical service. If Helmut Lang were to make such a projection, I would listen.” It’s like a film processing lab telling us Norbit is the best film of the year.

Blue Iris is also the name of an elderly porn actress who appears quite often on the Howard Stern Show. (not relevant but kind of funny)
