AKC: PDX Loves Labs, Pugs

lab-portland.jpgSo what’s the most popular dog in all of Portland, this dog happy town we call home? The American Kennel Club, according to the Portland Business Journal, says it is the Labrador retriever.

We seem to have taken a particularly affectionate step towards the pug as well, with it being reported that the pug, for its breed, ranks “higher in Portland than any other major city in the United States.” An AKC spokesperson described the pug as a “portable pooch that appeals to both families and singles alike.”

I can say I definitely see both breeds of dogs a lot when I take my beagles to local dog parks. Do you agree with this data? Is there a favorite dog you think should have been in the list instead?

My husband and I moved up here from Phoenix, AZ last July and we were just saying that we’ve never seen so many labs! We live by Gabriel Park and strangely enough, we see a great deal of Great Danes at the dog park too. (We have a bulldog and a French bulldog.)

I can remember as a child my Uncles black lab Poncho. They took him duck hunting to retrieve the ducks and he was a great retriever.I really loved that dog until he was shot by stray hunters fire one day.Labs are great but very plain jane.Simple colors, standard size, and so on.

BUT owning a dog and what type is somewhat reflective of ones self…Dogs tend to resemble and behave as their trainers do. So, do the research, talk to owners, go to dog shows, and give a home to one of the best friends you will ever have…
