OHSU = Layoffs

So they are announcing today that OHSU will have to lay-off/force retirement on 200-300 of their employees due to the Tort Cap removal. As someone who moved to Portland to work for OHSU just 6 months ago, I am doing a little of what they call “freaking out”. Please pray/make wishes/rub good luck charms/whatever you can for me as I wait to hear if I will have a job in the next few months.

    Yikes. It sounds like you’re in the middle of a nightmare up there on Pill Hill. Good luck. Here’s hoping you have nothing to worry about.

    Natty! I love your comment. So true. So true. My high school teacher told me that exact thing and I hold it close as I make my way as a freelance writing and novelist. Always work to be had.

    I meant writer, and not writing. See how I didn’t say editor? And Brewcaster, you got a job before even moving to Portland. I ain’t worried about ya, but I’ll keep a good thought on your behalf.

    If I were you. I wouldn’t worry one little bit. The folks at OHSU are renowned for throwing little hissy fits whenever they lose a little bit of money. This is a thinly veiled threat to get the legislature to give them back a Tort Cap. Hey, at least they admit it needs to be higher.

    You aren’t going anywhere Mr. B. For several reasons, among which are: you’re talented, dependable, really, really smart, perfect for your job and everyone depends on and likes you. Alot. Also, you’re funny, kind, compassionate and quite astute for your years. Additionally, you have a really cool wife and Beagles of inordinate loveliness. Of course I’ll pray cuz that’s party of my daily gig but really, sweet man – no worries.
