[...] Apparently, last weekend was the unofficial Portland “Face Lift Weekend” Like Silicon Florist, Metroblogging Portland got a face lift over the weekend, as well. Dieselboi says, “As you can see, Portland Metblogs, along with the entire Metroblogging network got a face lift over the weekend. We’re pretty excited about the new interface.” [...]

We announced to the authors that the RSS feeds would be broken for a few days. We decided that rather than wait another year and fix every single possible bug we'd just launch and fix things as they come up. Thanks for playing!

I appreciate the visual redesign, though to get rid of the horizontal scrollbar, I'd have to make my browser 1200 pixels wide! That's not happening. Not sure who surfs with a window that wide, anyhow.

I hate that new designs tend to produce more complaints than applause, but, well ... someone really borked the RSS thing with the new design. Feedburner is complaining that all of the RSS feeds I can find in the HTML are botched somehow. And, more annoying to me, none of them are the feed URL that I was previously subscribed to. I was wondering why there were no new Portland MetBlog entries in my RSS reader -- now I see it's because the RSS feed URL has changed, and it's not working anyhow.

I also found out (by trying to read some of the MetBlogs entries from before the redesign that I hadn't yet read) that the old URLs for entries don't work anymore. Here is the <a href="http://portland.metblogs.com/archives/2008/02/ugh_1.phtml" rel="nofollow">link that I had for TenStringEsquire's "Ugh"</a>. Now that article is located <a href="http://portland.metblogs.com/2008/02/29/ugh-2/" rel="nofollow">here</a>. Changing URLs is bad form, because it means that anybody who follows a link made before the new design went live won't be able to go where that link once went.

Not to mention that spitting out PHP isn't likely a good idea for anybody.

I understand that the Portland people aren't really responsible for all this, but I figured I'd document my problems so that someone could pass it on. I don't think this design was quite ready to go live.

Looks great so far, but pretty darn slow. Looks like there are some kinks to work out, as with any new lauch, like the link on the home page to Portland not working in Firefox.

Great job Metroblog team!

I'd love to comment on this post but I can't read it because the font is too small and light.

Ah hell, I'll give it 5 stars anyway.
