Twittering the Obama rally

Twitter has really come of age here in Portland.  The Oregonian has on the front page of their website - “Live updates on Twitter.”  Wow, I wonder how many people looked at that and thought - what is Twitter.  Shorthand - 140 characters of what you are doing right now.

I hopped over to Twitter just now - 7:25am - and saw a quick twit from Banana Lee Fishbones stating the doors are open at the Memorial Coliseum and she is indeed warm again.  So, the crowds have gathered and they are now staking out their spots to see Senator Obama who just may become our next president.  Honestly, I’m bummed I am not going.  The energy that will be in that building will be palpable.  As a student of history, I see this year as having as much passion about politics as when the nation elected JFK or tried to elect RFK.  People want change.

OK, back to Twitter-  RadioGretchen twitted from around 3:30am:  “radiogretchen at the memorial colesium. not many here. about 4 hours ago from web”  That my fellow Portlanders is dedication.  Have fun all.

Follow all the action on Twitter.

I drove by on my way into work about 6:30 am and there appeared to be thousands already outside…

I’d guess there were 3,500-4,000 people waiting for the doors to open.

Richardson gave a great speech. I was down on the floor just left of the podium about 7 people deep.

hiiii dieselboi…I’ve a quick question for you, not Obama-related (although this was very exciting this morning)…. There is an event taking place tomorrow night at the Chaos Cafe on SE Powell. It’s for a very good cause, the animals at the Lighthouse Farm Animal Sanctuary in Scio. Is there any chance I could convince you to publish a short blurb on this? The farm is a wonderful non-profit operation that relies entirely on donations. (Donations, by the way, that have dropped off tremendously, due to the current state of the economy, while the animal abandonment rate has sky-rocketed because people can no longer afford to care for them.) Would ya, huh, would ya? Please? For the animals? I won’t bore you with further details until you give me the go-ahead. Thanks in advance for considering my request. :-)
