Barber Babes

Barber Babes

I’m not really sure if this is serious or not… I drive past it every day, but can’t figure out where it’s pointing to for these “Barber Babes.” I was finally awake enough today to pull over and snap a shot… it makes me giggle every time though.

I’ve driven past that and only seen a guy or two in there, nobody else. Weird.

I sense that the business plan was written from atop a barstool. Not that there’s anything wrong with that! But it IS *hair*. I’m not so sure I care what the barber looks like as much as what my head looks like afterward. But maybe some guys don’t care, I don’t know.

I checked out the website, and this is just so very very sad. I’ve gone to both Hair-M and Chopperz, where they still focus on the hair cut over the fishnet stockings, cheerleader Mondays, and skimpy outfits.

Maybe the business plan was written after falling off the barstool.

I’ve been holding back on this one, but I just can’t hold it in anymore.

I really do wish them the best. I have small business empathy I guess.

But – aside from the barstool business model – I think they’re fighting uphill on two fronts: first, there’s only the two of them (and only one cuts hair?). Second, while the ladies are cute, I don’t think they will meet the "babe" expectations of the type of guy that will fork over cash for this type of experience.

Also, at $19.99 they definitely aren’t charging enough. Supercuts charges like $15. So they are dressing up for a $5 markup?

Then there’s the Hooters Effect. I don’t know if other guys feel it, but I actually find Hooters to be annoying and creepy, whereas I’m perfectly happy to go to a strip club where things are more overt and understood. Same would apply here I think.

And isn’t hair cutting one of those businesses where you build up a base of loyal customers over time? And sometimes you see your barber at the supermarket? Wouldn’t that be a little awkward? "Honey, meet my stylist, who cuts my hair every School-Girl Wednesday."
