Kids are out of school. The weather is nicer. Why wouldn't you want to go on vacation? Oh, the crowds. Yipes!

The boyfriend and I are heading to the Midwest on Labor Day weekend, but we're going to be gone for a couple of weeks - hopefully we'll miss most of the highway traffic that would be associated with any holiday week. I think that most people are allotted so little holiday time from their jobs that the only way to make trips worth it is to go in conjunction with other natural holiday time. The boy and I are both going into FTO debt to go on the trip, and that's even with Labor Day off.

Completely! The boyo and I are known for not only taking our vacations in the dead of winter (think January and February at the latest) but also to places that are COLD! Our honeymoon was in winter in Europe. COLD! I loved it, though. Unfortunately, it also coincided at the end there with spring break so we had a week of annoyance (really, I hate THAT many people around... weird as that may sound). Things are cheaper too... hotels and flights. I don't see WHY everyone has to go at once either... and for god's sake why would you go to somewhere hotter than where you are??? Of course, I just prefer the cold.
One day, I might even do that ice hotel thing. Heh!

I totally agree! I have vacationed at Disneyland in the winter and it is awesome...no lines or crowds. As for my family we didn't go on family vacations.

My parents always took us on vacation at odd times. An extended weekend after the first week of school. No crowds and my parents knew we weren't missing anything at school.
