Get your pumpkins here!

Ahh, October. The beginning of the best part of the year.

Gone is the constant dreary sunniness that drives so many of us Portlanders into remission. Gone is the malaise brought on by interminable amounts of happy rays falling out of the sky, shocking us into complacency as we long for the drippy wet days of fall.

The changing of the leaves. The return of liquid sunshine. The welcome onset of Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Honestly, this is my favorite time of year.

One more reason to love October in Portland is the annual trip to the Sauvie Island Pumpkin Patch.

Yes, I’m sure there are other patches out there. Beaverton may have a local field that tries to pass itself off as an annual Mecca for kids of all ages. Vancouver may be trying to pass of some squash or watermelon field for a pumpkin nirvana.

But if you really want to do the Pumpkin Patch thing, you have to drive to Sauvie Island and make your way past the Ford Highland Cattle Farm to the official Original Pumpkin Patch.

This weekend, timing my arrival to weekly parting of the rain-waters, I dropped in on Sunday for our adventure. A few photos after the jump, to get you in the spirit.

Pumpkins, pumkins everywhere…

Punkin-Head.

The Pumpkin Patch is fun…

Make sure to get out there. Open daily from 9-6. Extremely reasonable prices, a Corn Maze, lots of goodies to eat, and (most importantly) a great place to hang out while inspecting multiple gourds. What more could you ask?
