Got a brown coat? Got plans Friday night?
(First and foremost I apologize to B!x…I had a net-tastrophe that until today was unresolved. This should have happened a lot sooner. I’m sorry for all the nudging!)
So this B!x fellow (he is The One True Bix, accept NO substitutes!) is not only a fab blogger (remember Portland Communique? That’s him! I know!) but a huge Browncoat as well. Perhaps THE Browncoat. He found an outlet for his passion, and went for it. He told The Week:
“It was the end of December, three or four of us were on the way home from either the Laurelhurst or the Kennedy School. We started talking about how the second-run screenings [of Serenity] were winding down. How can we see it on the big screen again?
In a few minutes, that turned into ‘Let’s pick a day and try to organize a screening.’ In about five seconds, that turned into ‘Let’s do a charity screening.’ And about two seconds after that, it became, ‘Let’s pitch this to everyone.’
So he did. He got himself a site to organize things, and according to C|Net, he also got some minions (where? I’ve been looking for minions for ages!), and got himself a cause.
So the deal is this: on Friday at Cinema21 you can see a charity screening of Firefly. Your ten bucks goes to Equality Now, a group working for women’s rights worldwide. And since it’s the 23rd, you’ll have the extra geek cred of seeing Joss Whedon’s movie ON Joss Whedon’s birthday. Here’s the current stats of what snowballed into a worldwide event, from the man himself:
Austin is sold out. Raleigh is sold out. Boston sold out and got moved to a larger theater. Dallas sold out and added a second screen. Los Angeles sold out and got moved to a larger theater, then sold out and got moved to a larger theater.
And I know we can do at least as well as those people! Come on, getcher geek on. It’ll be fun. Even if you don’t have a coat that’s brown.
Update: Denver is also sold out as well.
