Portland will be blessed by the presence of another Oklahoman this week. My wife’s best friend is coming to visit Portland for the first time, and we want to sell this city to her. If you had 7 days starting Thursday to shove this city down someones throat in hopes of getting them to move out here, what would you do, see, experience? I am hoping for some actual events specific to this/next week. I know some Portlanders shun the idea of outsiders moving in, but hey, if they are a great person why would you not welcome them to the greatest city in the US?

So this guy was getting annoyed by a woman of a different race than his pasty whiteness on the bus. The woman was talking with the driver, so she was speaking a little loudly as to be heard by the driver during their conversation. This ass, started making comments under his breath to the people around him trying to get them to laugh at the woman. It elevated to the point where he started thanking her as loud as he can after she finished a sentence. As people bored with him, he took it up a notch, “blah blah blah, I gotta go get my welfare check” he says loudly in a terrible mocking accent. He is lucky she didn’t hear him and also lucky that I am not a physically violent person. This stuff makes my skin crawl and my blood boil.

You know just because a woman with darker skin than you is talking louder than you would like, does not mean she is on Welfare, you ass.

In fact, statistically whites are more likely to be on welfare, you ass. YOU ASS!

I think I am beginning to figure out the food situation here in Portland. See, my wife and I come from the Midwest, specifically Oklahoma. Food is different there. I am going take the high road and not use words like “better” or “higher quality” because I think that is all relative and personal. In the South, butter is a main ingredient, portions are huge, and the service is bend over backwards. Things seem to be a little different up here. We have been struggling to find dinner that makes us feel good about it. Again, I am going to avoid starting an argument, so let’s move on to one of our new favorite restaurants.

Chez Jose. Funny name, great food. Reading the reviews actually got me excited when I read someone from Dallas saying this was the place they have been looking for in Portland. We found it too. Large portions of inventive “tex-mex” style platters are paired with a great selection of beers, wines and the best salsa we have had since leaving Oklahoma. The service was on fire as well. Really friendly folk always with a smile. It felt a little like home. Now if a place like Autentica is what you look for in Mexican food, this may not be your place. But for us who found Autentica to be a super hyped waste of time and money, you might give this place a try.

Special Bonus - Monday nights starting at 8:00pm they hold a trivia contest in the bar. Tables team up for a fun informal trivia slugfest. The woman who runs it is very entertaining and well researched. I do have to brag and say that our team, Team TinyMeat&#0153, tied for second place. We received a gift certificate for our next visit, as if we needed that to bring us back. Meet us there Monday nights?

Let the blurriness of the photo be an indicator of intoxication levels.

I ride the MAX by the Alibi daily and only until recently had to wonder what magic was held inside. The Alibi is a Portland legend that promises to entertain. As odd as it seems, my wife and I having only lived here 8 months took a couple of friends from work here for their first time. They had lived here all their lives but never had ventured to the Tiki room. I feel like that is a tragedy. If the decor is not not enough for you, they feature great fluffy drinks (a decent selection of beers for me), decent bar food, and OMG the karaoke that happens here is magical. I have been to a few bars that do karaoke, but this one has been the best yet. They hold it in the back where all the tables are close together. It becomes this big party with strangers. Nobody sings unnoticed. Huge applause and yelling erupts when someone “goes for it” on notes they may or may not have range for.

+10 for also being right off the MAX line. Can I submit that we have a Metblog meetup here sometime?

My wife and I went to our first Blazers game today. What an amazing game. NBA games are always fun to me, especially after a few beers. Again, beer makes everything better. It is becoming my religion. Even without beer, you would have to have been dead to not enjoy this game. We thought the Blazers had lost the game by mid 2nd quarter, but they somehow came back in the final minutes winning the game by 1 point in the final seconds! I normally don’t watch a lot of sports, but a live NBA experience is a very exciting experience. Since I am lazy and a glutton for comments, please answer me these two questions:
1. What the hell does Rip City mean?
2. What is the story on the Portland Trail Blazers mascot? Is that a cougar? Is that what a Trail Blazer is?
