Sad day for Vodka lovers – Monopolowa Vodka

yesterday, i was shocked to see the new smaller bottle of Monopolowa Vodka on the shelf of my local liquor store. Monopolowa has since it’s inception been sold in 1 liter bottles. normal spirits are sold in “5ths” or 750ml bottles. someone has mandated that Monopolowa now also needs to sell in 750ml instead of the larger bottle. it looks so small. not sure how i’ll deal with it.

i blame the olcc.

Can I ask what the significance of this vodka is? Is in made in Oregon? Googling it comes up with it as an Austrian product. How much impact does to OLCC have on international liquor manufacturers, or am I missing something?

Just wondering how, as a reader of Portland.metblogs, and an avid liquor consumer I should react to this newsĂ–

monopolowa is indeed a product of Austria. what does this have to do with Portland? well, when i was younger, i lived in austria for school. i never drank vodka there, but later, in the peace corp, i was in Armenia where i was forced to become an avid lover of Vodka. upon returning to Portland, my Slovakian roommate and i single handedly supported the vodka industry for numerous years…..

there’s no point in going on. there isn’t a tie-in.

other than that when i spoke with the liquor store, they stated that the reason for the change in bottle size an quantity was a result of OLCC. at least that’s what they told me.
