A New Way to Do It Yourself

So, how many of you made a New Year’s Resolution to get in touch with your inner artist? Here’s something for all you artsy-crafty wannabe’s like me: the DIY Lounge; tons of creative classes taught by Portland artists, designers and professionals. In the next couple weeks learn Basic Photo Mechanics, Rocking the Stencil, the basics of Poker, Blogging Tips, Knitting Edwardian Arm Warmers (these look really cool, trust me), Podcasting, making your own ‘zine, and my personal favorite, Anarchist’s Guide to Sewing: Tanks & Tees, which walks you through the basics of turning your almost-ready-to-toss-but-sentimentally-valuable clothing items into reworked, funky pieces of orignal designer clothing! Classes aren’t just limited to creative arts. Next week marks the beginning of a 4 week series on starting your own business! Classes are inexpensive, short and FUN. The DIY Lounge is the brain child of Portland artist Jennifer Neitzel and has grown immensely in popularity since it’s inception. It’s located at 2940 NE Alberta. Have an idea for your own DIY class that you don’t see on their site? Contact Jen and she’ll send you a teaching packet!
