8000 Chapman Swifts Fly in Formation
If you’ve ever seen the film “Pitch Black,” you’ll remember the scene where millions flying things come out of the mountain at sunset. Here in Portland, we have a natural inverse of that, when thousands of swifts dive into the Chapman school chimney at dusk. It’s really an amazing sight.
You can check out the swifts for the next week or so at NW 27th and Pettygrove or just visit the Audubon web site.
This is just another example of partisan “swift-birding” in an election year.
