Graffiti on the Riverfront
This cool misty drizzle is quite pleasant, compared to the icy temperatures of the past week. I decided to grab some lunch and walk down to the river to enjoy it. With Schnitzelwich in hand (if you haven’t ever eaten a Schnitzelwich, you really should), I wandered down to Tom McCall Waterfront Park to munch my sandwich. And that’s where I found this image stencilled on the railing along the seawall:
So, what is it? From my perspective as a white, middle-aged, middle-class suburbanite, I figure it must be GANG SIGN!!! However, I’m perfectly willing to admit that I tend to overreact in these situations. Anybody out there know for sure?
it may be a new trend… but, i think gangs dont use stencils.
Maybe it’s an *art* gang.
sorry dude – I can’t dig the schnitzelwich. yuck.
Having just watched Spy Kids last night for the umpteenth time, I know that it’s FLOOP’S FOOGLIES!
the Schnitzelwich is the bomb! One of the best cart foods around. Obviously unless you are a veggie.
Stencil tagging is on the uptick. I see it everywhere these days. Some good….some bad.
the schnitzelwich didn’t do it for me, either. but i dig the stencil.
Um, it’s a stencil of a hand. Pointing down. Thumb to the side, middle finger extended.
That smoodge of red on the left hand side? Someone moved the stencil in a jerky way afterwards, is all…
I think it looks like an upside-down hand flipping the bird.
Looks kinda like the Echo Park gang sign from the 90s… but like the other guy said. Gang members don’t stencil. It’s probably supposed to be “ironic art” or something.
