My Prayers to Ninkasi Have Been Answered
Maybe I’ve been out of the loop, but I just found out that the Deschutes Brewery will be opening a brewpub in the Pearl District. The new pub will be at 210 NW 11th Avenue, across from the Portland Armory Building.
Holy Crap, I can’t believe I’m this excited. I’m a long-time fan of the Deschutes Brewery, and when I lived in Eugene I made several pilgrimages to Bend to enjoy their beers on tap at the Deschutes Public House.
Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Black Butte Porter, Obsidian Stout, Jubel Ale — these beers are emblematic of the craft beer movement in the Pacific Northwest, and Deschutes keeps cranking out new recipes that are every bit as good.
The new pub is scheduled to open in October, 2007, and you better believe I’m going to welcome them with open arms, and a terrible thirst.
Mmmm…. Black Butte Porter….
If you get a chance, try the new Hop Henge Imperial IPA. It’s damn good.
I heard about this in the Deschutes email – it sounds freaking fantastic! I am only slightly jealous, and Adam was right – you must try Hop Henge (http://www.pacificbrewnews.com/Reviews/Deschutes_HopHenge_2007.htm)
It seems a bit torturous to announce the coming of a place so far in advance… but it will be October soon enough I assume. And heck, it’s not like you’re hurting for good beer bars up there.
I had one of the best burgers of my life at the Deschutes Public House… charred natural beef burger, but still pink on the inside. Hope they bring that magic to Portland.
Also, Hop Henge is most definitely ‘the shit’. Hmmm… hoppy for days.
