Did You Put Off Shopping To Watch The Parade?

Year-round, but especially in the warm weather month, the NW 23rd Avenue shopping district is jammed up on weekend mornings.

By 11 a.m. there’s not a parking spot to be found. The shopper foot traffic is a non-stop processional.

Since trendy-third is my “hood,” I was down there around 10:30 or 11 a.m. this morning.

Not only were there few pedestrians, but there were enough parking spots to accomodate a small fleet of semis.

I started to wonder why the crowds were so sparse. I considered three reasons:

1. The weather is drizzly so people are sleeping in and getting a late start. But that doesn’t explain the crowded streets on NW 23rd on other weather-sucky days.

2. Many of the people who would have hit “the avenue” by then were at the Grand Floral Parade. Watching it, or in it.

3. Out of town shoppers who form much of the NW 23rd. weekend shopping contingent were wary of driving in for fear of hitting parade detours.

Probably all the above, but what do you think?

And, readers, did you notice drop-offs in shopping foot traffic where you live?
