Pride Parade Was Awesome

My friend Kirsten (lensbabies) and I went to the Pride Parade yesterday and had a blast. We were at the end at the Waterfront and had a perfect view (no taping needed). We both took a ton of pictures, and it was so nice to see all the smiling faces. It was also great seeing so many families, gay and straight. I was surprised there weren’t any protestors at the parade. We had anticipated some religious idiots with signs decrying the sins of being gay. Guess they decided to spend their time doing father’s day stuff instead. Overall we thought it was a huge success, and lots of fun to watch. Congratulations to the parade coordinators!

I have more images at Flickr under kai4462.

I agree that the parade was great. Unfortunately, there were several protesters there toward the end of the parade route. I saw 2 huge signs and a few people wearing sandwich board type signs. I don’t think they stopped anyone from having a good time!

The parade was a blast! There were a couple of knuckleheads with truly disgusting signs, as Daryle mentioned… one six-foot-high dead baby anti-abortion poster and one “God Hates You” banner. But we managed to turn it into an object lesson for our kids (“Look around, boys. Who’s having fun, and who’s being a complete ass?”), so we managed to find a silver lining anyway.

The red dresses worn by RedDressPDX were absolutely stellar, as were the cleanshaven torsos of the Gay Volleyball Team…

Anti-abortion protests at a Pride parade??? Seems like they might be missing their target audience.
