Welcome December!

I love December. Not only because of the holidays, the music, and multiple viewings of “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” but because it allows me to start putting my friends on notice of my January birthday.

However, December seems to be the month where folks are frantic to finish shopping for the holidays or rushing around the office so they can use up those vacation days before 2008. Here are a few things to do this weekend that will get you out of the house (what snow?) to shop and get in touch with your inner child.

Tomorrow, the women’s group, DinnerGrrls PDX, will host their annual holiday bazaar at CubeSpace in SE. I highly recommend Mona & Kiran’s avacantro chutney. It’s delicious, so pick up some for a gift and for you, too.

Also tomorrow, the Wonder Ballroom will host “I Heart Indie Holidays,” which will feature indie-crafty types from across the NW selling their wares. The event will include an all-ages bar serving hot cocoa and cider.

Last, but not least, starting today, and continuing over the next three weekends, Cinema 21 will feature the French classic, “The Red Balloon (Le Ballon rouge),” at 1PM. It’s a dialogue-free film about a boy and a red balloon traipsing through 1950s Paris.

I too have a Jan. birthday that as a child often got lost in the holiday shuffle…I think I started reminding people of it shortly after Thanksgiving! (It’s the 4th if you were dying to know :)
