A Yvonne Smith update

A few weeks ago, I asked you to consider helping Yvonne Smith, the grandmother who lost both her legs thanks to a freak car accident with an alleged freak behind the wheel. Now that the kicker checks have arrived (not to mention those holiday bonuses), you may be looking for a way to give back and/or actually have the means to do so.

If so, I’d suggest you read this account of the driver’s recent bail hearing. Here’s an excerpt:

After the testimony was heard, perhaps the clincher was hearing from Yvonne herself, who attended the hearing via phone. After thanking mister Sauer’s family and friends for coming, and acknowledging their sincerity, she simply asked, “Where were all these family and friends and preachers the day this guy decided to hop in a car and take my legs?”

Surely yet another XBox game or (insert item of redundant conspicuous consumption you have on your holiday wishlist) can wait a bit, no? And if you want to give back locally yet aren’t moved by Smith’s story, consider this or this instead.
